A helicopter belonging to the British Royal Navy has crashed on a farm in Devon, according to a police statement. Emergency services are at the crash site in Sherton Down.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident is ongoing and further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
A police spokesperson said the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the aircraft is a Royal Navy helicopter.
The Royal Navy stated that the crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on Wednesday (local time). “An investigation is ongoing and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time,” a spokesperson said.
The Royal Navy operates two nearby air bases in the region: RNAS Culdrose, one of the largest helicopter bases in Europe, located near Helston in Cornwall, and RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset, which hosts more than 100 aircraft.
Due to the incident, several traffic restrictions have been imposed on roads around the area.
