Fire in Pefka, Thessaloniki: 112 alert issued to residents; Aircraft and helicopter deployed

A wildfire broke out on Tuesday afternoon (June 9) in the Pefka area of Thessaloniki. Greece’s emergency alert system, 112, sent a warning message to residents of Filiro, advising them to remain prepared.
“Forest fire in the Filiro area of the Thessaloniki Regional Unit. Remain on standby and follow the instructions of the authorities.”
To combat the fire, authorities deployed 56 firefighters, 15 fire engines, and three ground teams from the 2nd EMODE (Special Forest Firefighting Unit). Volunteers and municipal water tankers are also assisting in the firefighting effort.
Aerial support is being provided by two CL-415 firefighting aircraft and one BELL helicopter.
