Checks by security officers of the Piraeus Central Port Authority on ferry vessels are being intensified ahead of the summer period, aiming to combat drug trafficking and enhance passenger safety.

As part of these inspections, officers of the Piraeus Central Port Authority arrested a 20-year-old Greek woman, who is accused of violating drug legislation.

The young woman was found during an inspection carried out on a passenger–vehicle ferry at the central passenger port of Piraeus, with the assistance of a specially trained narcotics detection dog of the Coast Guard. During the search, a nylon package containing cocaine with a total gross weight of 52.5 grams was found in her possession.

The port authorities also seized two mobile phones, while the narcotic substance will be sent to the General Chemical State Laboratory for forensic analysis. According to initial estimates, the street value of the seized quantity exceeds 2,600 euros.

The case is part of the broader framework of increased inspections conducted by the Coast Guard at passenger terminals and ferry vessels at the beginning of the summer tourist season, when passenger traffic to the islands increases significantly. The checks are expected to continue with undiminished intensity at all major ports across the country.
