The 43-year-old man from North Macedonia who had been renting her house has confessed to the murder of Stavroula Leventaki. After committing the crime, he buried the woman’s body in a field about five kilometers from the residence.
According to initial reports, the tenant claimed that he argued with the woman because he had caused damage to the house. During the altercation, he allegedly stabbed her with a knife and killed her. He then placed her body in a bag and transported it in his car to the location where he buried it.
After an exceptionally difficult night, officers from the Chania Subdivision for Crime Investigation and Detection succeeded in obtaining a confession from the North Macedonian national, who reportedly described in detail everything that occurred on the morning of May 30.
The accused led police officers to the location where he had concealed the body of the 46-year-old Stavroula Leventaki. At this time, a strong police presence and forensic personnel are in the Vatolakkos area of Chania, where the unfortunate woman was found.
The investigation is ongoing, and an official statement from the Hellenic Police is expected regarding the circumstances of the crime and the evidence that led to the complete resolution of the case, which shocked Chania and the whole of Crete.
