The home-care programme “Oikothen” is entering a new digital phase, with the introduction of somatometric measurements and real-time remote monitoring for oncology patients and people with other chronic conditions.
June 1, 2026 marked three years since the launch of the healthcare programme, which has changed the way many patients are cared for within Greece’s healthcare system, allowing them to receive treatment for their condition in the familiar environment of their own home.
“Oikothen” was launched at Agios Savvas Cancer Hospital in Athens, inspired by medical oncologist Michalis Nikolaou, director of the First Department of Medical Oncology. It is now being implemented in four hospitals and has supported thousands of patients.
At Agios Savvas alone, medical and nursing staff carry out around 1,000 home-based treatments each year.
