Russia’s air defense systems shot down at least 23 Ukrainian drones that were heading toward Moscow on Saturday, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

“Specialists are examining the debris,” Sobyanin said, according to the Russian news agency TASS. He did not specify the intended targets of the drones.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said one of its drones struck an oil pumping station in Russia’s Vladimir region, east of Moscow, describing the facility as vital to the Russian capital’s fuel supply.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said a total of 124 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across various parts of the country over the previous 24 hours. The ministry did not say whether the aerial attacks caused any damage.

More than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv has increasingly targeted strategically important facilities inside Russian territory.

Following repeated Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, several Russian regions have reported fuel shortages.
