Forty agricultural and forest fires broke out across Greece in the past 24 hours, according to a statement issued by the Fire Service.
Of these, 33 were brought under control at an early stage, while firefighting crews are still battling seven active fronts.
Local investigative offices, together with teams from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes, known in Greece as DAEE, are looking into the causes of the fires.
The Fire Service has urged citizens to exercise particular caution and, in the event of a fire, to strictly follow the instructions of the competent authorities for their own safety.
