Police were placed on high alert on Saturday (July 18) after a suspicious suitcase was discovered inside an abandoned building on Evelpidon Street in the Kypseli district of Athens. An investigation by the Hellenic Police revealed that the suitcase contained the body of a woman in an advanced state of decomposition.
The suitcase was found by a homeless man, who immediately notified the authorities. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that it contained the woman’s remains. According to reports, she was wearing a pair of shorts.
The area was immediately sealed off so forensic teams could examine the scene and collect evidence. A forensic examination is expected to determine the woman’s identity, the time of death, and the exact cause of death.

According to a local resident, the abandoned building had remained accessible until about two years ago and had served as a shelter for homeless people. Following a fire, however, it was sealed off. The resident also said he had seen a homeless man staying in the surrounding area in recent weeks but had not seen him over the past few days.
The case has been assigned to the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, and the investigation remains ongoing.
