Commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has once again slowed to a near standstill amid the latest exchanges of strikes between U.S. and Iranian armed forces, according to data released on Friday.
Just eight ships passed through the Strait on Thursday, the lowest daily total in the past three weeks, according to maritime intelligence firm Kpler. By comparison, 15 vessels transited the waterway on Wednesday.
Before hostilities resumed two weeks ago, approximately 48 ships were passing through the Strait each day.
Prior to the outbreak of the Middle East conflict on February 28, following the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, more than 100 ships crossed the Strait on an average day.
