Among the main defense procurement programs were the weapons systems of the well-known “Achilles’ Shield” project, which had not yet received formal approval, as Greece and Israel had been engaged in behind-the-scenes negotiations over the level of participation by the Greek defense industry. Athens had made it an inviolable condition that Greek defense companies secure at least a 25% share of participation in this major program.

According to information from protothema.gr, the scope of the defense procurement programs proposed by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias amounts to €4.2 billion. Competent sources point out that these programs take into account lessons learned from recent conflicts and make the Hellenic Armed Forces largely resilient against new types of threats (such as drones).
