New details are coming to light regarding the murder of criminal lawyer Stavros Georgiou, following the arrest and confession of the 28-year-old Egyptian, who allegedly admitted to police officers that he killed the 73-year-old after an intense argument on the night of last Tuesday (21/7).

According to information available so far, the accused and the victim were not connected by a lawyer-client relationship, but had been with the same group on the final night before the crime.

Police are now attempting to determine what led to the killing that took place in the 73-year-old’s law office, examining all available evidence in order to shed light on the motive behind the murder.

The outing, the stop at the office, the killing

According to the evidence gathered by authorities, after their night out, Stavros Georgiou is believed to have offered to drive the 28-year-old to his home.

However, according to what the accused allegedly told police, the two men first stopped at the criminal lawyer’s office, where an intense argument followed and escalated into a violent altercation.

The 28-year-old allegedly confessed that he beat him to death, while he also told police the reason that, according to his claims, caused the confrontation between them.

How they located the murder suspect

Officers from the Homicide Department tracked him down by using video footage from security cameras in the area. His presence at the crime scene was also confirmed by forensic laboratories through fingerprints found in the victim’s office.

The 28-year-old — who did not have a permanent residence — was located on Acharnon Street in Agios Nikolaos and arrested. Another detail assessed by police was the fact that he had a broken arm.

The profile of the 28-year-old

The Egyptian had previously come to the attention of the Greek authorities as well.

The accused had submitted an asylum application in Greece in early 2023, which was rejected both at first and second instance. In 2024, he submitted a new subsequent application, which was also rejected, with the final decision being served to him at the end of 2025. At the same time, since May 2026, an arrest warrant had been pending against him in a case involving the sexual abuse of a minor.

The 28-year-old is expected to be brought before the Evelpidon courts today, while the preliminary investigation continues, with police now focusing their inquiry on the circumstances and, above all, the motive that led to the brutal murder of the well-known criminal lawyer.

The timeline of the murder

It is recalled that the case came to light on the night of Tuesday, July 21, when the 73-year-old criminal lawyer’s minor daughters, worried because they had been unable to contact him for hours, went to his office to look for him.

The premises, which Stavros Georgiou used as both a law office and occasionally as accommodation, were opened with the help of the building’s doorman. There, the two minors were confronted with a horrific scene, as they found their father dead on the floor in a pool of blood and without his clothes.
