The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has requested the correction of an issue involving seat installation on hundreds of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, warning that the defect could cause passenger injuries in the event of an emergency landing.

The FAA issued a proposed airworthiness directive on Monday, affecting 453 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft registered in the United States. The agency did not specify whether the measure would also apply to aircraft operating outside the US, although international airlines typically comply with FAA directives when they concern their fleets.

According to the FAA, the action follows a report indicating that some passenger seats had not been properly installed on their support tracks.

So far, no timeframe has been announced for airlines to complete the required inspections and repairs.

Boeing has not issued an immediate comment regarding the FAA directive.
