At least one drone struck a U.S.-owned and operated floating LNG storage vessel in Damietta, Egypt. The vessel is flying the flag of the Marshall Islands.

There are also reports of fires breaking out on two ships.

In any case, the incident represents an unprecedented attack on Egyptian facilities located virtually on the Mediterranean coastline.

The vessels that were hit have been moved away, while operations at the facilities are expected to resume.

Meanwhile, the port operator said that the situation was “under control” following the explosion.

The blast, the company said, appears to have occurred “at the LNG terminal during cargo unloading operations.”

“The vessels involved have been safely moved outside the port area,” the company added, noting that operations would resume overnight “at other berths and terminals.”
