Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 38-year-old police officer who was found dead in Agios Dimitrios remain in full swing, with Hellenic Police officers attempting to piece together the events of the final hours of his life.
According to information obtained by protothema.gr, police searched the 38-year-old’s home, but nothing was found that would point either to a criminal act or to suicide.
In addition, as part of the investigation, statements have already been taken from five of the officer’s colleagues, as well as from his partner. They were asked to describe his character, his daily routine and what they knew about the days leading up to his death.
According to the same information, the officer’s partner told the authorities that the 38-year-old had no health problems and was not dealing with any personal or professional issues. His parents, according to the same sources, are not yet in a position to give statements.
For his part, the forensic pathologist is reportedly maintaining his assessment that the death was most likely caused by pulmonary edema. The findings of the forensic examination are now expected to be assessed alongside the results of the toxicological tests, which are considered crucial to establishing the full picture of the case.
The laboratory analyses are expected to determine whether there was alcohol, medication or other substances in the 38-year-old’s system and, if so, at what concentrations.
The 38-year-old served with the Athens Patrol Sub-Directorate and was found dead inside an unmarked police vehicle at the intersection of Pikrodafnis and Vouliagmenis streets. The vehicle was locked, while a bottle of gin was found inside.
His partner reported him missing on Monday evening, as she had not heard from him since the previous night. The police officer was due to report for duty in the morning, but he did not show up.
The authorities determined that his phone was transmitting a signal through a mobile-phone antenna in the wider Agios Dimitrios area. Searches focused on the location, and the 38-year-old was eventually found dead inside the service vehicle.
