Traffic police have identified the driver of a bus that was filmed making an illegal U-turn on the Athens-Sounio road, crossing the double solid line while vehicles were travelling in both directions. The bus driver, a 48-year-old woman, has had a case file compiled against her on a charge of dangerous driving.

The incident took place on the afternoon of 13 August and was captured on video that later circulated on social media. Footage shows the bus performing a U-turn on the Athens-Sounio road, crossing over the double solid line as other vehicles moved along both lanes of traffic.

The footage was examined by officers from the Special Information and Social Media Analysis Unit, part of the Traffic Accident Control and Prevention Team (OEPTA) within the Attica Traffic Police Directorate. Following a preliminary investigation, they succeeded in identifying the 48-year-old driver. As part of the inquiry, OEPTA officers also visited the depot where the bus is stationed and carried out an inspection of its tachograph.

The inspection uncovered breaches relating to the driver’s insufficient rest periods, for which the relevant administrative fines were issued. The case file compiled against the 48-year-old has now been submitted to the competent prosecutor.
