Anastasia Isaak, daughter of Tassos Isaak, responded sharply to the public apology by former Turkish Cypriot AKEL MEP Niyazi Kizilyurek for the murder of her father in August 1996 in Deryneia, as reported by philenews.com.
Commenting beneath a related post by Niyazi Kizilyurek, in which he said, among other things, that he was “ashamed to be a Turkish Cypriot” and that “an apology is owed to Tasos Isaak’s daughter,” Anastasia Isaak said that “it is not the duty of all of you to ask me for forgiveness,” but rather to take responsibility so that the murderers are punished.
“The murderers, that is, whom you made ministers and MPs. It is the duty of all of you to ensure that justice is served for all the families who for thirty years now have carried in their memories the murders of their children, brothers and fathers,” she wrote.
Furthermore, in a postscript, she added the following remark: “So that we don’t forget, my father demonstrated humanity through his actions, not through a Facebook post.”
What Niyazi Kizilyurek said
It is recalled that in his post, the former MEP referred to the bloody incidents in the Buffer Zone in 1996, describing them as organized violence by nationalist groups with the tolerance of the “authorities” of the self-declared state.
He expressed his “shame” over the murders of Tasos Isaak and Solomos Solomou, arguing that they were organized by “official authorities,” while also criticizing the stance of Rauf Denktash, noting that the perpetrators had been hosted at the “presidential palace.”
Niyazi Kizilyurek also noted that Turkish Cypriots owe an apology to Tasos Isaak’s daughter.
