A major success for Greece at the World Rowing Championships, which are being held in Amsterdam.

Gabriela Lioliou and Lila Mouratidou won the silver medal in the lightweight double sculls. The youngest crew among the six finalists in their event won the national team’s first medal at this year’s World Championships.

They were in second place for most of the race and tried to make a strong finish in the final meters to move into first place, but ultimately took silver with a time of 7:12.05.

The Greek lightweight double sculls crew has won medals in every competition it has entered this year. They have won four medals each in international competitions this year—three together as a crew and one each in different events.

The gold medal was won by Aileen Mariah Ibarra Madueña and Melissa Marques of Mexico, with a time of 7:10.02.

Khadija Krimi and Selma Daouadi of Tunisia produced an incredible finish and, with a time of 7:14.90, took the bronze medal, ahead of Peru’s sisters Alessia and Valeria Palacios, who had been in third place for most of the race (7:19.13).
