Defying the danger, a young man, just 19 years old, rescued an elderly couple who were at risk of being burned alive when their home caught fire. The incident occurred in the area of Midea in Argolis, with the young man entering the house to rescue the couple, who had panicked, as reported by Star Channel’s news bulletin.
Christos Kologliatis was sitting on his balcony in the evening when he saw his neighbors’ house engulfed in flames. Without a second thought, and together with other neighbors, they took hoses so they could bring the fire under control until the Fire Service crews arrived.
“We came here, and at first we didn’t know what to do either. We found three or four hoses. The kids took the hoses to put out the fire. I went to the uncle and aunt from the other side, where the fire hadn’t reached the house. I was shouting at them to stay outside on the balcony, because they were so panicked that they were going inside to save whatever could be saved. But we were afraid that if they stayed inside, they might faint from the smoke or something might happen to them,” the young man said in an interview with Star Channel.
Continuing his account, he said: “I opened the door, and while the other kids were ‘holding back’ the fire with the hose, I went inside the house to get the uncle and aunt out. I got the aunt outside. After I brought her out, I called the other kids to help me lift her because she couldn’t stand on her feet. We got her to sit down. The Fire Service and EKAV arrived once the situation had subsided a little, and everything was fine.”
Despite the shock they suffered, the two elderly people are in good health, but their home sustained extensive damage.
