A wildfire in low vegetation broke out at midday on Wednesday in the Mytikas area of the Municipality of Thebes, with the blaze burning close to a solar park.
According to Fire Service updates, 42 firefighters are operating at the scene, supported by a ground patrol unit from the 4th Special Forest Fire Force (EMODE), volunteers and 16 fire engines. Eight firefighting aircraft are also taking part in the operation, carrying out water drops.
Water tankers and heavy machinery from local authorities have been mobilised at the scene, with support from the Municipality of Thebes.
The Fire Service Operations Centre was informed of the fire at around 1.50pm. Throughout the incident, ESKEDIK has been receiving continuous footage from a drone fitted with thermal and optical cameras, providing a detailed picture of how the fire is developing and any potential flare-ups that may require intervention.
Today has been classified as a category 3 high fire risk day in the area, reinforcing the need for heightened operational readiness among fire services.
At the same time, the Arson Crimes Investigation Unit of Fthiotida has been mobilised to look into the causes of the fire.
