The doctors Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka are now being charged with homicide with possible intent over the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, with the case entering a new and clearly more serious judicial phase.

At the center of the investigation are the new digital pieces of evidence being collected by the Hellenic Police, and in particular the records from the plasmapheresis machine, which are allowing investigators to reconstruct, minute by minute, what happened inside the medical office on Karneadou Street.

The two doctors had appeared at Evelpidon in order to provide explanations regarding what happened during the singer’s treatment. Meanwhile, the possibility of upgrading the indictment from fatal exposure to homicide with possible intent had already been under consideration, as the investigating judge was awaiting the new digital findings from the police investigation.

The plasmapheresis machine issued an alert, but they called EKAB 49 minutes later

Meanwhile, a 49-minute interval between the first alert from the plasmapheresis machine and the call to EKAB is now at the center of the investigation into Giorgos Mazonakis’s death, as the digital data from the equipment used at the medical office in Kolonaki allow the authorities to reconstruct with much greater accuracy what happened on that critical afternoon.

According to the latest information from protothema.gr, the plasmapheresis procedure began at 14:37 (2:37 p.m.).

At 15:22 (3:22 p.m.), the first alert was recorded and, according to the data being examined, the treatment appears to have stopped at that point. Further warnings from the machine followed: one at 15:23 (3:23 p.m.), followed by two more alerts at 15:45 (3:45 p.m.).

The call to EKAB, however, was recorded at 16:11 (4:11 p.m.).

Based on these findings, the investigation’s central question has now shifted to precisely what happened inside the medical office from 15:22, when the first alarm indication appeared, until 16:11, when assistance from EKAB was finally requested.

The critical timeline

The sequence of events emerging from the data available so far is as follows:

14:37: The plasmapheresis procedure begins.

15:22: The machine records the first alert. At this point, the treatment appears to have been interrupted.

15:23: A new alert is recorded.

15:45: The machine issues two further warnings.

16:11: The call to EKAB is made.

This means that 49 minutes elapsed between the first alert and the call to EKAB.

This period is now considered one of the most critical points in the case, as the authorities are being called upon to determine what the machine’s specific warnings meant, what condition the singer was in at that time, what actions were taken by those present, and why help was not requested sooner.

According to information currently under evaluation, the call for emergency medical assistance should have been made as early as the appearance of the first alert at 15:22. This particular issue is expected to become a crucial subject of the judicial investigation.

The machine recorded the critical moment

The new dimension in the case emerged when the authorities began analyzing the data stored on the plasmapheresis machine itself. According to the protothema.gr report, the equipment recorded even the time at which Giorgos Mazonakis’s cardiac function stopped, while the machine had already been operating for a considerable amount of time.

The investigation did, however, reveal that there was an approximately 30-minute discrepancy between the internal time displayed by the machine and the actual time. For this reason, police officers cross-referenced the timestamps in order to establish the actual times at which the events occurred.

This process established that the actual start of the machine’s operation was 14:37 (2:37 p.m.), despite the fact that photographic material showed a different time on the machine’s display.

What did the alerts mean?

The focus of the investigation is now on the machine’s warnings. The authorities are examining the type and content of the specific indications in order to determine exactly what the machine detected and how serious the condition reflected at that moment was.

The crucial issue is not simply that alerts occurred, but how the doctors responded to them and what happened in the minutes that followed.

Protothema.gr had already revealed that the machine’s alarms had been activated repeatedly, indicating that there was a problem with the patient, while the second doctor was also present in the medical office.

The photograph at 14:45

Another piece of evidence now incorporated into the timeline is a photograph recovered from Ioanna Gaka’s mobile phone. According to protothema.gr, the photograph appears to have been taken at approximately 14:45 (2:45 p.m.), just a few minutes after the actual start of the treatment at 14:37, and shows Giorgos Mazonakis on the plasmapheresis machine.

The assessment being considered is that the photograph was taken for promotional purposes for the medical office. The finding is particularly significant because it provides another point of reference in the timeline: the singer was on the machine just minutes after the procedure began.
