The low-pressure system that has persisted offshore from Crete since yesterday is keeping the weather unsettled, with heavy rain and thunderstorms on the island, according to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias.
The phenomena will occur intermittently throughout the day and caution is advised, as there is a risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.
More specifically:
Today, Wednesday 16 September 2026, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Crete, with more limited phenomena in the Dodecanese. Localised rain will also occur in the remaining areas, with the exception of Thrace and most of the Aegean.
Temperatures will reach 27 to 28°C in mainland areas, the Dodecanese and the Ionian islands.
Winds in the Aegean will be predominantly northerly, reaching up to 7 Beaufort, while in the Ionian they will be easterly, reaching up to 6 Beaufort.
In Attica, some localised rain is expected. Temperatures will range from 19 to 26°C, while northerly winds in the east will locally reach 6 Beaufort.
In Thessaloniki, light rain is forecast, mainly around midday. Winds in the Thermaic Gulf will be light, while the maximum temperature will reach 26°C.
On Thursday, most of the rain will be concentrated in Crete and the Dodecanese and will gradually weaken, while on Friday the weather will improve in most areas.
Over the weekend, there will be little rain, mainly confined to western and northern areas. Winds will weaken and temperatures will rise, exceeding 30°C.
