The rally for the 42nd anniversary of the student uprise at the Athens Polytechnic ended peacefully in front of the U.S. Embassy at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, however hoodlums kept the “tradition” of burning Exarchia with attacks and other episodes noted in the central suburb that is a hub for anarchists.
Anti-state factions that took part in the rally went to Exarchia Square where squabbles broke out with the riot police at Stournari Street. 200 young protestors carrying canes, rocks and make-shift explosives threw molotoff cocktails and burnt dumpsters. They broke pavements and destroyed everything in their path.
Police used flares to push away the mob.
