Chinese man offering illegal services to newlyweds in Santorini caught

He ran a wedding dress atelier and 'offered' photography

Newsroom September 11 03:36

A Chinese man with a French passport has been detained for allegedly conducting illegal wedding ceremonies in Fira, Santorini. The illicit operation was exposed after the head of Santorini tax department in conjunction with the Thira social security office audited two hotel rooms purportedly used by the Chinese man as wedding dress ateliers. During the check 68 wedding and reception dresses were found and seized, along with a large gamut of make-up kits. The ‘operation’ employed two Chinese nationals without legal resident permit papers. According to the detained man, he would pick up the couples and offer them a tour of the island and photography services. After a thorough investigation the ‘business’ had a website which had a linked banking account where the money of the ‘client-couples’ would be deposited. The charges against the man included running a business without a legal permit and failure to register transactions with tax department.
