The government will introduce legislation to stop public-sector employees found guilty of serious transgressions or even criminal actions from returning to their jobs while their case is being processed, Interior Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis told the radio station Real FM.

“There is a time limit in which these disciplinary actions must be carried out and concluded. We cannot leave things like this. I have talked with Mr. Vernardakis and we agreed to immediately pass a legislation. These people must not be allowed to return to their work until the disciplinary proceedings against them were concluded”, he said.

Asked when there would be legislation on this issue, he said that an ordinance will be tabled in Parliament as soon as sessions begin.
