Shells struck Russian Embassy compound in the Syrian capital of Damascus as hundreds of pro-government supporters gathered outside the embassy to express their support of the Russian air raids in the region last month.

The shells fell after Syria’s Al Nusra front – an offshoot of al-Qaeda – called for retaliatory action.

Rebel forces have targeted the embassy in the past.
