Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras addressed Greek Parliament on Friday during the debate on the omnibus bill of prior actions to unlock a tranche for Greece. His speech comes ahead of a roll call vote that starts at midnight.
Assets
Refering to assets indiscretions of two Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) ministers, Tsipras said that there were no findings that suggested corruption.
Addressing the opposition members that doubted the government’s moral advantage, he said that “lack of justifications resulted in the repetition of scandal-mongering.”
“You found corrupt ministers without there being real findings concerning corruption,” he said.
Refugees
During his address, he commented on the leaders’ summit that he attended in Brussels on the refugee crisis. He said that Europe is moving at a very slow pace on this issue and that there are diverging opinions as to how it should be dealt with. He criticized the xenophobic and conservative stance of some governments that deal with the migrant crisis by raising walls or responding violently.
He said that Greece has made it clear that it is important to gradually transfer the burden arising from a large number of arrivals from Greek islands to the Turkish coast.
Lagarde list
“If some believe that investigation into tax cases or lists will end with time should forget this,” he said. “Today we are submitting an amendment to the Ministry of the Economy so that cases will be extended for another year,” he said.
Tax
Tsipras warned that the Greek State will continue to fight tax evasion. “If some people thought that because the year is drawing to a close they would evade tax audits in large tax cases, or in the cases of the infamous ‘lists’ they are deluded,” said Tsipras.
Media licenses
The government will submit the long-awaited draft bill on media licensing on Monday, October 19 and called on opposition parties to support it.
