It used to be that families got together to carve pumpkins with their kids. But times are changing, meaning less time and more demands as far as pumpkins are concerned. That’s why Halloween is big business for artist Marc Evan, co-founder of Maniac Pumpkin Carvers with fellow artist Chris Soria, and another 10 carvers.

For the team, Halloween pumpkins are ephemeral works of art costing hundreds of dollars. They create everything from Walking Dead inspirations (all the more apt considering a recent murder involving the series) or other less scary, more arty creations like Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.

They don’t cut the tops off, prefering instead to create fixtures for light bulbs.
