Greek Alternate Justice Minister on Corruption Issues Dimitris Papangelopoulos  met with the new Netherlands Ambassador in Athens Caspar Veldkamp.

The two officials discussed mainly the ministry’s priorities on combating corruption, following Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s commitments.

The ambassador was briefed on the ministry’s initial targets, such as merging of certain inspection services and the legislation on auditing the assets of political figures, as well as promoting transparency in political party funding and other issues.

Also, Mr. Papangelopoulos stressed the need to upgrade inspection and auditing agencies and to enhance their responsibilities, saying that these must be exercised with transparency and independence from any extra-institutional influences.
