A group of explorers and archeologists have for weeks used radar and infrared devices in the hope of finding the secrets behind a wall in King Tutankhamen’s burial chamber. It is hoped that the long-sought tomb of Queen Nefertiti lies behind.

Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves would feel vindicated if that is the case as he had argued that the tomb itself was an antechamber to a larger burial complex in honor of Nefertiti, Pharoah Akhenaten’s powerful queen.

Some theories state that Nefertiti succeeded Akhenaton and finding her burial place would be a positive step for the Egyptian government that is desperate for positive news to lure back tourists to the ancient monuments after Islamic State militants bombed a passenger plane full of Russian beachgoers.

Archeologists are excited about their exploration. Mustafa Waziry, director of antiquities of Luxor, states: “If we discover something, it will turn the world inside out,” he said. “And they (tourists) will come.”

Despite hope and hard work, not all archeologists share the view that Nefertiti’s chamber will be found. One prominent Egyptologist, Dr. Zahi Hawass, a former antiquities minister, said: “I am an archeologist for 40 years. I can smell discovery, and this is no discovery at all.”
