Former Vice President of Greek Parliament Alexis Mitropoulos was prosecuted by Public Prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki on charges of tax evasion and money laundering.
The prosecution against Mr. Mitropoulos came after a complaint report submitted to the prosecutor’s office by the competent tax authority. The report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office on the occasion of a tax evasion case, which is alleged to have taken place before 16 years.
Mr. Mitropoulos allegedly did not issue a receipt for a lawyer’s fee and, thus, did not include a payment of 440,000 euros in his tax return.
This is the same case which was revealed last September and was the reason for excluding Mr. Mitropoulos from SYRIZA ballots.
Mr. Mitropoulos, though, has denied the accusations submitting evidence in the competent tax authority and said that this is a “political persecution.”
