The Philosopher’s Stove: A journey to ancient cuisine (pics)

A culinary trek from Ancient Greece to modern London

Newsroom December 18 08:49
The Philosopher’s Stove is a pop-up kitchen that uses authentic recipes from the past to offer unforgettable culinary experiences. Meals are based on recipes found in ancient manuscripts or fusions.
The concept is taken from Homer’s Odyssey, where Odysseus said to his host King Alcinous: “Where is there happiness amongst all the people? When feasters in the house, sitting in rows, can listen to a singer, while beside them tables are full of bread and meat, and a waiter brings wine from brimming bowls and fills their cups: this seems to me in my heart to be the best of all!”
The chefs try to keep faithful to the recipes through references during the research into ancient texts. In this way, diners savor a collection of dishes inspired from antiquity, such as Dionysus’ Finger Food, Circe’s pig, Cicero’s burger etc.
