Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras faces the daunting task of convincing his partners that there is a need for the review of his country’s program to close as quickly as possible, without additional measures to influence the stability of the country. Attending the Annual World Economic Forum in Davos since Wednesday, Tsipras is meeting with IMF Chief Christine Lagarde on Thursday.
Sources state that Tsipras will call for Lagarde to clarify the IMF’s intentions regarding its participation in the Greek program. The Greek side wants the ‘bar’ to be lowered regarding demands in the social security sector. Furthermore, it will ask for leaks creating a negative climate for Greece to be restricted.
Tsipras is expected to point out that Greece has kept its pledges and implemented commitments, however there is a real danger for social cohesion to crumble and this would result in political instability that could have negative impact on the application of the program.
