Greece eyes exotic tourism from Iran

Greece eyes more travelers from the east

Newsroom January 22 12:12

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) has set its sights on Iran’s travel market in view of the forthcoming visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to the Iranian capital and the participation of GNTO in the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition (T.I.T.E) to be held from February 16 to 19.

GNTO Secretary-General Dimitris Tryfonopoulos is set to visit Tehran on January 28 and 29 for a visit with his counterpart and other tourism officials. Contacts will be made with entrepreneurs and tour operators geared towards attracting a share of outbound tourism from Iran during the celebration of the Persian New Year (NOWROUZ) on March 21 and during the summer holidays.

The peoples of the two countries have deep cultural roots in antiquity as well as historical references. This, along with the possibilities of the Iranian tourism market (about 5 million Iranians travel abroad in the period of the Persian New Year), pave the way for the development of cooperation, which the leadership of the Economy, Development and Tourism Ministry and GNTO aim to exploit in the best possible way, the organisation said in an announcement.
