Government’s spokesperson Olga Gerovasili denied any scenarios on conducting early elections during the press briefing on Tuesday saying that there is no possibility of forming an ecumenical government or enlarging the government majority.
Moreover, Mrs. Gerovasili denied the possibility of cabinet reshuffle. “There is no such issue,” said Mrs. Gerovasili clarifying that any changes in the government will be made “whenever Prime Minister believes it is necessary, but the government does not think it is currently necessary”.
Regarding the farmers’ protest actions and demands, government’s spokesperson stressed government’s position on farmer issue during press briefing which is dialogue, dialogue, dialogue.
Mrs. Gerovasili urged Greek farmers to isolate those who do not want dialogue noting that the government’s position on the farmer issue is: dialogue, dialogue, dialogue.
She underlined that the government remains committed to the proposal for dialogue with the farmers and spoke of interests that make use of the farmers anxiety destabilising the government and creating a climate of political turmoil.
Regarding the negotiations with Greece’s lenders she said that the aim of the Greek government is the completion of the evaluation so as to begin the debate on the Greek debt.
The Greek proposals comply with the terms of the agreement, Mrs. Gerovasili argued noting that talks with the institutions are at a preliminary level.
“There is an almost agreed framework,” said Mrs. Gerovasili and explained that the first round of negotiations between the government and Greece’s lenders ends on Friday and they will resume after one week in order to complete within two weeks.
“Our aim is to conclude negotiations by the end of February so as to complete the evaluation of the Greek program in March”, she added.
The government spokesperson referred to the prime minister’s future trip abroad. As she said, Tsipras will participate in the conference “Supporting Syria and the Region” that will be held on February 4, in London.
He will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and he will have other bilateral meetings, including the Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. As she stated, the participation of the government at the summit will confirm Greece’s central role in the management of refugees and pointed out that what matters is not simply dealing with the issue of refugee flows, but addressing the causes of the crisis.
