JP Morgan Chase Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon sent a memo to the bank’s employees and shareholders on Tuesday stating that he has been diagnosed with throat cancer but that the ailment is curable. The 58-year-old financier, who leads one of the four largest U.S. banks, will undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatment for the next eight weeks meaning that he will not travel to Europe as planned, where he was scheduled to meet with the prime ministers of Greece and Italy and also visit Spain, England and Germany.
Mr. Dimon is of Greek descent and had personally contributed to the success of Greece by helping to boost investment interest in Greek bonds, as he led efforts for Greece’s return to the international markets with the issue of a five-year bond in April.
Mr. Dimon said that his cancer was caught at the early stages and is curable. He also said that he plans to remain actively involved in the bank’s business.
