Over 18,000 runners will take part in this year’s 5th annual Athens semi-marathon to take place on Sunday, March 20. Professionals, amateurs, locals and foreigners are expected to all take to the streets of Athens to test their endurance in long distance running. The race will kick off at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ on Amalias Avenue at 9 am on the morning Sunday, March 20. The Wind 3km race will start 20 minutes later from the same spot, while at 11.45 am the 5km race will commence at Syntagma Square on the corner of Rizari and Ermou Street. Finally, the start of the AMEA (Disabled people) and Special Olympics race will start at 9.50 am from the corner of Rizari and Vasilisis Sofias Street. Online applications to participate in the 2016 Athens semi-marathon race have closed and you need to contact 2109331113, fi you wish to still take part. Athens Mayor George Kaminis said that this year the race started earlier than any year to expand the tourist season of Athens. Due to the event a number of traffic will temporarily be interrupted on the streets of the race.
