As an insult to the left wing voter characterized the head of the party “The River”, Stavros Theodorakis, Lakis Lazopoulos refusal to participate in SYRIZA European ballot. Speaking on a morning talkshow of ANT1, he said: “When you think that your country is under occupation, that it is experiencing a humanitarian crisis […] you cannot say at the end “but I have a contract and I will contribute afterwards”, he said and went on to add: “One of the two is a sham […] it is an insult to the left wing voter. I think that the left wing voter deserves more than the refusal of a man who engages in political satire and political propaganda.”
In regard to Lakis Lazopoulos statement in which he indirectly attacked him, saying that “The Greek system, in panic over the current situation, is running with a backpack on its shoulders to prevent its reversal”, Stavros Theodorakis said he has no problem with satire.
“The River” defends the positions of the left wing, but more logically, knowledgeably and realistically, Mr. Theodorakis said when asked about the positions of his party. He also added that his views are close to those of the newly elected Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi.
Regarding possible future partnerships for the “The River” after the elections, Stavros Theodorakis said that “we do not condone neither the left nor the right mistakes”, explaining that after the elections he will pose 20 issues to the parties and their answers will determine what will happen. “The solutions are no longer absolute, they are no longer black or white. This is the position of the left wing in Europe, not the left wing in Greece”, he added.
“There’s no room for everyone in The River”, stressed Mr. Theodorakis, adding however that he would welcome the cooperation with some members of New Democracy or SYRIZA, as long as they put aside the “rigid logic of their parties, the far-right or Stalinist elements”.
Later on in the interview , the head of the party “The River” compared Greece to a wrecked ship, led to disaster by ND and PASOK. These two parties now study the “behavior of the castaways “, while on the other hand, the “populist left” says to the castaways “Stay where you are, I will pass a law and you will become Captains”. He also noted that SYRIZA, as a party that wants to rise to power should clarify whether it supports the euro.
Finally, asked on whether he purposely denied to support Nikos Dimou on the case of the Holy Light, he said “I am not the one to give or deny support” and added that The River is trying to promote the idea of individual political responsibility.
