The production team of “Game of Thrones” came to Greece – specifically to the island of Ikaria – in search of locations for 5th season of the hit fantasy drama series that has fans around the world. In particular, HBO producers wanted to find the most suitable locations to represent Dorne. Though they found many beautiful locations on Ikaria, they were turned away by the bureaucracy involved.
Initially, it seemed certain that Ikaria would be the filming location. Producers photographed the castle of Koskina and the rocky Drakano Fortress to represent Dorne. Though they were charmed by the island, but plans to film there failed due to bureacuracy and the makers of the popular series decided to use locations at the Alcazar of Seville.
Spain will benefit greatly from the media attention and its economy will receive a tourist boost, especially if the producers use impressive digital technology as they had used when they presented photos of Meteora to portray the Eyrie.
