Greece’s major political opposition party New Democracy criticised the Greek government for celebrating over a fourth memorandum that came with new harsh measures the Greek public will have shoulder, due to the government’s ‘resounding debacle’. New Democracy’s press office released a statement after Greek PM Alexis Tsipras had informed the president of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the deal, stressing that the measures the Greek government signed on to were so harsh and ineffective that no matter what lies the government uses to spin it, people had lost all trust. The statement claims that any mention to a debt relief is deferred till the end of 2018, while an automatic mechanism for spending cuts would be implemented. The statement reads that any decisions for the release of the next disbursement to Greece would be taken at the May 24 Eurogroup meeting after the government legislates all the tough prior actions amounting to 1.8bln Euros by raising indirect taxes and curtailing public wages spending.
