German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble for the first time publicly admitted he had disagreed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the handling of the Greek crisis in the past, in an interview to German newspaper ‘Handelsblatt’. ‘It is no secret that we disagreed, but a decision was made and I accepted it’, he said. Commenting on the progress of the review of the Greek program, Schauble underlined that the Greek labour market had improved, while the economy was growing and the debt falling. On the pressing issue of a possible haircut of the Greek debt the German Finance Minister expressly ruled it out.
