According to a report commissioned by the UN, world heritage monuments and locations like the Statue of Liberty and the city of Venice are in danger due to climate change and rising temperatures. The researchers involved in the report estimated the impact rising sea levels, the climate change and extreme weather patterns would have on 31 world heritage sites.

As the report concludes, some of the most vulnerable sites were the Statue of Liberty, the Easter Islands, the Galapagos islands, as well as the national park of Shiretoko in Japan. The scientists warn that it is vital to limit the rise in temperature to 2 degrees Celsius to avoid the consequences of melting ice caps and a subsequent increase in sea levels.
