‘Brexit’ or ‘Bremain’: Countdown has started

Pundits fears markets will be thrown into panic

Newsroom June 23 07:59

The whole world is on the edge of its seat, as 46.5 million British citizens go to the voting booths to cast their ballots in a historic referendum to decide whether Britain will remain in the EU or leave, Thursday, June 23. Voting started at 7am (UK time-9am Greek time) and will end at 10pm (UK), midnight Greece. A safe projection of the results is estimated to be available in the morning of Friday, after tabulating a representative sample of the votes, as the polls show a close race. The words ‘remain’ and ‘leave’ are printed on the ballots available in the voting booths. A first indication of the result might be available just after midnight (Greece), with pundits forecasting that the lower the abstention is the higher the prospect of a ‘remain’ vote winning. The British Ministry of Interior is expected to make an official projection of the result in the morning of Friday, if the difference between the two camps is too close to call. Meanwhile, the European Central Bank and the Central Bank of England are expected to issue announcements after the results are in. Analysts predict that if the ‘Brexit’ wins, markets around the world could be thrown into a panic, while the UK PM David Cameron is expected to resign. European leaders fear a domino effect will ensue, with Ireland and France being affected immediately, as 400,000 Brits live in France and 160,000 French live in the UK.
