Mitsotakis: We will not tolerate tricks against Judges

Criticises government for intervening in Judicial system

Newsroom July 18 02:10

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the President of Greece’s major opposition party, New Democracy (ND) stated he would not tolerate any dirty tricks against the judicial system on by the Greek government after his meeting with representatives of judge and prosecutor unions, Monday. ‘I was birded today, by the representatives of the Prosecuting and Judicial unions on a series of institutional and financial matters, that justifiably concern them’, said Mitsotakis. The leader of ND spiked the Greek government saying that the orderly function of the Justice system was a fundamental requirement for the effective operation of democracy. ‘The government is obligated to support the judges and prosecutors and not intervene in their work, so that they can in turn cary out their crucial duties with speed and consistency’, Mitsotakis told reporters. ‘The independence of the Judicial system is non-negotiable’, he added. Commenting on the current economic situation in Greece, Mitsotakis noted that in order for the country to exit the crisis growth and investments were necessary.
