For the lovers of camping holidays, music and exquisite natural beauty the annual River Party is the perfect choice. The event, which takes place every year at Nestorio in Kastoria, northern Greece, has become an institution. This year it celebrates its 38th year running and promises to offer over 50,000 nature and music fans the perfects escape for August. This year’s party is schedule to take place between August 3 and 7. Nestorio is a 28km distance from Kastoria and you can get there either by car of bike or take the special River Bus, which departs from Athens and Thessaloniki on August 3 by paying between 28 and 68 Euros. Once you arrive on the foothill of Mount Grammos and the banks of Aliakmonas River, you can stay at nearby hotels, but if you really want to experience the atmosphere of the party stay at the open camp in the actual festival. The huge camp site is divided in four sections: Paradise: for those who prefer their peace and quiet; the Jungle: the largest zone on the mountain’s slopes; the Indian village: which is at the heart of the festival; and Hawaii: a balance between peace and the rhythms of the festival. When it comes to eating there are plenty of options, as the facilities are extremely organised and have a great food variety. As far as the weather goes, it would be a good idea to take something warm for the nights as it does get a little chilly. The camp site has many toilettes, showers and an emergency medical facility. Among the bands and artists performing this year are: Koza Nostra, Kostis Maraveyias, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Yiannis Angelakas, Soctratis Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Ble, Onirama etc. The 5-day tickets cost 50 Euros, or you can buy a daily ticket that costs 15 Euros, while 95 Euros will buy you the ‘River Tent’ package. Ticket purchases can be made via Viva.
