An 89-year-old man was given a quarter of a million dollars by thousands of kind people who saw his photo on the Internet and decided to help him.
Fidencio Sanchez has been selling ice creams for more than 20 years. He retired last summer but then his daughter died and was forced to work again in order to survive. Every day he had been pushing a street cart on the sidewalks of his neighborhood in Chicago, selling popsicles and earning a few dollars per day.
Then a man drove through the neighborhood where he was born and spotted the old man. He stopped, bought 20 popsicles and paid 50 dolars. Then he wanted to help more. He snapped a photograph of the man pushing the cart and posted the image on social media and a crowdfunding website. The photo moved thousands of people to donate. Some people gave 5 dollars while others gave as much as 2.000. The campaign has been shared 80.000 times.
