The president of the main opposition party SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, attended yesterday’s summer festival of Italian party “Left Ecology Freedom” in Rome and stressed the need to put more efforts in making Israel to stop the “criminal attacks” targeting Gaza Strip.

“It is unacceptable to watch Israel killing children in Palestine. We need to unite our voices and forces and ask for peace, expressing our full solidarity with the Palestinian people,” said the president of SYRIZA, answering to questions of Italian journalists.

Asked about the Italian left-wing, Tsipras said: “The Left Ecology Freedom party and the other forces of Italian left-wing have achieved a very important result at European elections. They managed to elect three MEPs and exceed 4%, forming a distinct political force on the political map. I believe that the Italian left-wing, with a great tradition in social fights, has a lot to offer.”

The president of SYRIZA also stressed, that “Italy plays a crucial role in the developments in Europe” and that “what we all need to realize is that we need a broad coalition of nations – especially in Europe – in order to change the current hopeless situation in Europe.”
