Author Nick Papandreou, wrote an article in the “Economic Review” about his brother, former prime minister George Papandreou. The article stresses that the previous government began reforms at a fast pace – so fast that it was undermined at the time.

Regarding the main opposition Coalition of the Left SYRIZA party, Mr. Papandreou writes that if it gains power, the party would be called upon to continue implementing reforms – the same reforms that caused the earlier government to reach its “unglorious end”. He assesses that should the party ever come into power then the last hope for making reforms would be shattered.

“If laws don’t affect guilds and corruption, if new institutions don’t weaken these, then pathologies will prevail,” he states.
