Greek photographer Vassilis Tangoulis captures the beauty of his favorite waterland in Lake Tourlida, Messolonghi, Greece. His photo series, titled “Wonderland”, is “an ongoing long exposure project.” This type of “long” exposure allows him to add a fourth dimension – time – to a three-dimensional work.
His technique covers a field of various photographic genres and manages to capture the area as suspended in time, where only the “present” counts. 80% of his work is black and white because he feels certain photos don’t lend themselves to color, but even these photos have more color than color photography due to the multiple variations of possible grays.
He draws much of his inspiration from his small-town upbringing in Karpenisi and calls himself a “village boy”. His viewpoint and perspective were influenced by the mountainous Karpenisi and the beauty of the haunting landscape of his childhood.
Mr. Tangoulis leads a double life as an art photographer and a physicist working in the Chemistry Department in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
