32-year-old Turkish-Cypriot Tekin Cetin flung off his clothes infront of the monument of the founder of modern-day Turkey in Famagusta as a sign of naked protest. The act of appearing nude in public is an offence, but Cetin is no stranger to the law as he has been in and out of Turkish prisons for various crimes such as burglary and drug dealing. Recently he had turned a new leaf and worked with a construction company building roads but had been dismissed.
In frustration, the young man ripped off his clothes and arms outstretched, beseeched to the statue of the father of the Turkish state. “Find me a job, I don’t want to sell drugs,” he pleaded.
A Turkish-Cypriot law enforcement agent tried to arrest him but found it difficult to get a grip. Police back-up was called in to make the arrest and the young man was duely taken to a psychiatric ward to be examined.
