When “As Greek as it Gets!” is presented by Little Studio Films at the 2014 Berlinale Film Market the creators hope that it will follow the international success of director Nia Vardalos’ box office hit “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. That’s why they’ve injected all the quintessential elements of success into the work with an overriding feel of summer love, mistaken identity and a beautiful Mykonos larger-than-life island setting.
The work is based on the Greek saying that “You are who you declare yourself to be”. In the case of “As Greek as it Gets”, NY burgar-flipping Mike Metaxas “declares” himself to be a wealthy shipping tycoon from Mykonos to impress a girl.

The plot is nothing new, but the glossy beauty of Mykonos and a few surprise twists give a sense of fun to the feel-good film concocted by Greek-Australian father-daughter screenwriters Helene and Peter Paroulakis. The latter is the published author of “The Greek War of Independence” who left his interest in history and war to try his hand at writing about modern-day love.
His daughter, Helene, met with producer Alexia Melocchi at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival and they hit it off immediately. The initial goal of the movie was to project the beauty of Greece and its people. Co-producer Alexandra Yacovlef (Alexia Melocchi’s mother), who comes from a prominent Greek family, said: “ We are very excited to be involved to finally show the world how hospitable and generous and funny the Greek people of Greece are, despite the Country’s problems. Historically speaking, it is not only the country that founded democracy but it is also the country that invented comedy and tragedy in the theatre.”Little Studio Films develops, produces and markets prestige and talent driven commercial and documentary feature films for the global marketplace.”
The movie is directed by Jim Fall (of “Lizzie Macguire” fame ) and features a cast of well-known U.S. and European actors.
